...The Irish seem to park their cars all over the place!....

I was both amused and disgusted to read a recent headline report in one of our local rags. It seems, many hurling fans attending what can only be described as a "needle" match between our local County Clare team and Kilkenny, parked their cars all over the place and, on returning to them after the match, were incensed to find they had been issued with fixed penalty parking tickets. Be embarrassed and filled with shame if you fit any of the stereotypes portrayed by these 'erberts' below!

Well, so far I can see chivalry has died the death completely.

Let me explain, we live opposite a fairly large hotel. By all accounts, not cheap. I find it absolutely fascinating to look from my 'office' at 'Joe Public' coming and going from the foyer. The dress standard of a huge proportion of the clientele, particularly the lads as they leave for a night 'on the town', leaves much to be desired. I'm not inferring that the hotel caters for the hobbledey-hoy, but these lads are hardly what I would call 'smartly turned out' and far removed from my idea of 'well scrubbed up'. This use of Christian names

In recent years I have noticed, with increasing frustration, that everybody seems determined to use Christian names whenever they talk to me. I find it rude, presumptuous and impertinent because they don't even have the basic courtesy to ask if I mind. I come from a generation where Christian names were only used by family members and friends. These days Christian names are invariably used to put you at a disadvantage .....read more.....
